From the moment we arrived at Audubon Park, the energy between these two was impossible to miss. Easy laughter, stolen glances, and the kind of quiet excitement that only comes when you're weeks away from meeting someone you've already loved for months.

Why Audubon Park is Perfect for Maternity Photos in New Orleans

When it comes to outdoor maternity sessions in New Orleans, most people think of City Park first and for good reason. But Audubon Park has something all its own.

Tucked into Uptown New Orleans, Audubon offers that same signature canopy of ancient live oaks draped in Spanish moss, but with a quieter, more intimate atmosphere. The light filters through the trees differently here. Softer, more dappled, almost like it was designed for moments exactly like this one.

For a maternity session, that light is everything. It wraps around a bump beautifully. It catches the gold in a bracelet. It makes a flowing white skirt feel like it belongs in a painting.

It also doesn't hurt that the park carries that unmistakable New Orleans soul that no studio backdrop could ever replicate.

There's something about holding the image of your baby really holding it, looking at it together that bypasses the camera self-consciousness completely. The moment she unfolded those ultrasounds, the poses disappeared. What was left was just two people looking at their daughter for the hundredth time like it was the first.

Some of my favorite frames from this entire session came directly from those ultrasound photos. The strip held up against the New Orleans sky. Him holding them close to his chest while she leaned in. Her lying back on the blanket, holding them above her like she was reading a letter she already knew by heart.

There's a version of maternity photography that feels very sanitized. Soft florals, neutral palettes, nothing that disrupts the aesthetic. And while there's absolutely beauty in that, it's not the only way.

This mama came to her session fully herself. Tattoos, gold cuff bracelet, crop top that showed every inch of that bump with zero apology. And the result is maternity photography that actually looks like her, not a version of her softened for someone else's comfort.

The ink against the white ribbed fabric. The detail in the artwork on her arm catching the light through the trees. The way her whole look felt curated and intentional without trying too hard.

This session is honestly a masterclass in maternity outfit choices for a New Orleans summer and it worked so well I want to break it down for future mamas.

She wore a fitted white ribbed crop top paired with a flowy white tiered skirt. Here's why that combination works so well outdoors:

The crop top shows the bump clearly and beautifully. No guessing, no hiding, just celebrating it. The ribbed texture catches light and shadow in a way that adds dimension to close-up detail shots. The white skirt moves, which means even when she was simply walking or turning, the photos had life and flow to them.

Dad wore a green and white striped linen shirt with black pants as a perfect complement without being matchy-matchy. The stripe added visual interest without competing with her.

Maternity sessions are best booked between 28 and 34 weeks. Far enough along that the bump is beautifully visible, but early enough that you're still feeling comfortable and mobile.
